Yet Another Imperial Coup Attempt, This Time in the Democratic Republic of Congo By David Starr   On May 18 and 19, 2024, there was a major incident in the Democratic Republic of Congo.    In a  press statement  put out by the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, the details were revealed. The statement comprised six points that were made. Among them:   • Council took note of the briefing by the representative of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on the attempted coup by armed individuals, near the Palace of the Nation, in Kinshasa…   • Council strongly condemned the attempted coup against a democratically elected government of President Felix Tshisekedi, which threatened to reverse the democratic gains achieved, so far, in the country, and to further destabilize the region.   • Council commended the defense and security forces of the DRC for their swift response and for bringing to book the perpetrators of the attempted coup, a...
A Battle Between a Progressive and a Fascist in the U.S. Congress By David Starr   There was chaos in the U.S. Congress when Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took verbal jabs at each other. This was during a House Oversight Committee meeting held on May 16, 2024.   Not surprisingly, Greene initiated the sharp exchange when she said that Crockett had false eyelashes and couldn’t see beyond them. That was a response to a question Crockett was asking about Attorney General Merrick Garland, who the Republicans accused of being in contempt for withholding information from the Congress that involved an audio tape of a discussion between President Joe Biden and Special Counsel Robert Hur.   The footage of the argument can be viewed  here .   Quoted by  Rebecca Beitsch in  The Hill , Crockett asked, in response to some of Greene’s rhetoric, “Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland. Do you know what w...
Israel’s Attempted Genocide Continues, this Time in Rafah By David Starr   Despite warnings being dropped from the sky by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF), Israel continues its attempted genocide, launching a ground invasion in the Gaza enclave of Rafah, to go along with its airstrikes, against Palestinians.   Palestinians heeded the warnings and have fled Rafah, going to Al Mawasi, a coastal area in the Gaza Strip. But if past actions are any indications, the IOF just may conduct airstrikes against Palestinians fleeing to Al Mawasi. Israel’s fascist government has wanted all along to get rid of the Palestinians, even if it means imposing a Final Solution. The irony is tragic considering the Holocaust.   There have been repeated displacements, with Palestinians fleeing from one area to another in Gaza. A  United Nations report  puts it this way: “Stranded, their homes demolished, loved ones killed, and repeatedly displaced on their land, they had sough...
Resistance on May 1 st : Workers Protest for Better Wages and Better Working Conditions While Gaza Supporters Remain Defiant against Police and Zionist Violence   By David Starr   A series of actions took place during May 1 st , International Workers Day: Basically, May Day protests by workers wanting higher wages and decent working conditions; and the brutalization of Gaza supporters by police and Zionist thugs at various universities where the supporters remain steadfast in the goals of university divestment from Israel and a permanent ceasefire in Palestine.   An  Associated Press  (AP)  report detailed the actions of protesters worldwide , with mention of workers’ support for Palestinians. “Workers and activists around the world marked May Day with largely peaceful protests over rising prices, low wages and calls for greater labor rights. Pro-Palestinian sentiments were also on display.”   There was a conflict in Istanbul, Turkey where “thou...
