Op-Ed: Hardline Israeli Supporters Never Mention the Israeli Occupation and Settlements By David Starr The Israel-Palestine conflict has been a major tragedy for decades; and it still is. The political divide between the pro-Israel supporters and pro-Palestinian supporters has widened with the latest turmoil in the form of another war, this time between Israel and specifically Hamas.   The Oct. 7, 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel may have begun this latest tragedy, but the underlying causes have not, and are not, being addressed: the Israeli occupation and settlements. Ideally, it can be said that the Hamas attack was wrong which included the killing of innocent Israeli civilians, but Israel’s response was worse with more Palestinian deaths; and it continues with the heavy bombardment of Gaza. But in this situation, as with others, the root of occupation and settlements are ignored by hardline Israeli supporters.   There’s a hysteria about the hardline support for Israel. It’s a straig
Cornel West and Alan Dershowitz argue over the Israel-Palestine Conflict: Dershowitz Has a Hissy Fit By David Starr   In early October, Fox “news” had Cornel West and Alan Dershowitz on the  Hannity  show as guests. Both discussed the Israel-Palestine conflict, at least initially. As the conversation went on, West and Dershowitz began arguing about who is at fault in the conflict. Host Sean Hannity said to West,  according to Charlie Bash  in  Mediaite , that “You always call me brother Sean, and I call you brother Cornel. I’m not that happy with you tonight.” Hannity, like other Fox hosts, doesn’t like the policies of Left/Progressives.   With Hannity not pleased, West defended his stance. Nash quoted West: “545 Palestinians died in August 2004, not one American said a word. I believe a Palestinian baby has the same value as an Israeli baby.” West went on to add that all war crimes are wrong, and said, “…but you cannot simply look at this particular moment without the larger backdro
The Israel-Palestine Conflict: Over 100 years of bloodshed By David Starr   The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has reached a new level of violence with Hamas’s deadly incursion inside of Israel, while Israel retaliates with a more deadly assault on Gaza. The conflict is seeming to go on forever with the roots causes still not resolved: Israel’s occupation and its settlements. And for now, it doesn’t look like Israel will right these wrongs.   A report on Secular Talk  shows how insane  Israel’s policies are toward the Palestinians.   The Palestinian situation has been treated like it’s secondary to Israel’s dominance; or blatantly ignored. The West, especially the United States, has not really followed through on its “concern” for the Palestinian people. There are assurances but they really amount to nothing where the root cause is concerned. Writing for  Vox , Jonathan Guyer was  spot on  when he asserted, “It took Hamas’s deadly attack to remind Israel, the United States, and the wor
The Praising of a Ukrainian Nazi-Linked Veteran in Canada’s Parliament: The Legacy of Ukrainian Nazis Has Reemerged     By David Starr   It was an embarrassing event in the Canadian Parliament in late September as  Ukrainian Nazi-linked veteran Yaroslav Hunka was honored as a World War II “hero.” Upon finding this out, Canadian officials scrambled to save face. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed that this was “deeply embarrassing.” House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota, after getting more information about Hunka (after the fact), regretted his decision to invite him. Democracy Now  interviewed  Ukrainian journalist Lev Golinkin about this revelation.   It is rather irresponsible that there was no relevant research done on Hunka’s history before anything occurred. Perhaps Canadian officials rushed to prop up Hunka as it relates to the Russia-Ukraine War, of which Canada is a supporter. What is also irresponsible is the standing ovation Hunka got in the parliament, althou
