Right-Wing Media: All the Bullshit That’s Fit to Print
By David Starr
For decades, right-wing media has peddled more lies than anything else. In recent history, the right-wing media has become a caricature out of George Orwell’s novel “1984.” A lot of doublespeak.
The media sure got off on the landslide victory of friendly fascist Ronald Reagan over the lukewarm Walter Mondale in the real year, 1984. Orwell’s title of his novel couldn’t be more appropriate. The media, and Reagan’s followers, verbally masturbated enthusiastically over his victory.
While the right-wing media has been a cheerleader for right-wingers and conservatives over the years, it’s really gotten down to the absurd…and the insane. The “news” coverage has been especially slavish to the whims of Donald Trump, albeit, with subtle criticism. Very subtle.
There have been quite a number conservative/right-wing media outlets which are in the United States. But it’s a case of quantity and not quality. All of them essentially follow the same script: Liberals, bad, communists, bad, anyone who strongly criticizes them or disagrees with them, bad. Other words include, evil, terrorists, woke, etc.
Some of these outlets include the following:
The American Spectator – This publication was founded by Emmett Tyrell Jr., and has been its editor-in-chief. Tyrell is also a conservative author and columnist. He’s been pushing right-wing propaganda for years. And The American Spectator is a typical reflection of his views.
An example of The American Spectator’s propaganda is an article by Lou Aguilar titled, “Supermen Not Wanted in Leftist Bizzarro World.” This is about the latest superman movie, which apparently rankles the right. It is written by a right-wing hack who is never at a loss of words when it comes to being in his own bizzarro, glib world.
For example, such bizzarro phrases are used like “feminist fantasyland,” Hollywoke,” and the glib sentence, “Unfortunately, girlbosses [like a feminist Lois Lane] debilitating white men is the Hollywoke rule, to which Earth’s greatest hero is not invulnerable.”
Aguilar only saw the trailer of the movie but still gives a detailed, right-wing take on the film. He complains that the “new film sounds my alarm.” Probably alarmed in reactionary fashion.
Of course, he throws cheap shots at the Democratic Party, but shows that he doesn’t understand why many in the Democratic base are rebelling against the party’s establishment. The latter has been leaning further right, caving to the Republicans in the name of bi-partisanship. How can one keep pushing a failed strategy of compromise when the MAGA GOP is not compromising, and has a demented agenda? The establishment negatively harps on Trump, but he’s a symptom of an overall problem: the rule of capital.
Blaze Media – Originally founded by Glenn Beck, it was first called Glenn Beck TV, then The Blaze. In 2018 it merged with Conservative Review Television, and got the name Blaze Media.
In a July 15, 2025 article, Chinese nationals were demonized for allegedly ripping of U.S. senior citizens. “Allegedly” is the key word, meaning there probably isn’t evidence to prove this. The author of the piece is Joseph MacKinnon, who also took pot shots at the People’s Republic of China (PRC), writing that the nationals “hail from an adversarial communist nation that has in recent years targeted the U.S. with cyber-attacks, intimidation and coercion campaigns, deadly fentanyl, election interference, and threats.”
That’s quite a number of accusations and it shows the utter hypocrisy of MacKinnon and others on the right. The USA, as an empire, has been doing these things for decades, especially in the Global South. There have been cyberattacks, intimidation and coercion campaigns, election interference, and threats. And most of the world knows this.
MacKinnon goes on, accusing Chinese students of “reportedly [engaging] in espionage, spy recruitment, bio-material smuggling, and intellectual theft on college campuses.” The key word here is “reportedly,” which does not necessarily indicate proof.
MacKinnon continues, “It turns out some Chinese students may not be here to give Beijing a competitive edge but rather to rip off elderly Americans.” Another key word, “may.”
It doesn’t sound like strong conclusions can be made from MacKinnon’s accusations.
MacKinnon did write, “The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that eight Chinese nationals were indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to commit wire fraud.” Why is it that foreigners from “adversaries” get punished for alleged crimes, but a wanna-be tyrant like Donald Trump gets away with murder, figuratively and literally…and still does. It is obviously evident.
MacKinnon continues to use the word, “allegedly” in his accusations.
Even with the information he wrote about the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pennsylvania, who are the individuals in charge of that office? Are they Trump appointees? (Actually, it doesn’t matter if they’re Republicans or Democrats, since they are both fanatical anti-communists.)
Overall, MacKinnon’s piece comes off sounding like old propaganda out of the 1950s.
But what if the students actually did the things MacKinnon describes? First, not all Chinese students are committing illegal acts. Second, the reason for the negative propaganda against the PRC in MacKinnon’s piece, and in other right-wing media, is because it dared to challenge the capitalist world order and practice some degree of socialism. And China has shown to be socially responsible, generally-speaking, as a co-founder of BRICS and pursuing the goal of a multipolar world, thus threatening the U.S. empire’s hegemony.
Newsmax – A U.S. news, political opinion commentary, and digital media company, Newsmax was founded in 1998 by Christopher Ruddy, who describes himself as a libertarian conservative and Reaganite. Newsmaxhas been called conservative, right-wing and far-right.
In an article published July 17, 2025, Newsmax quotes Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-NY, who claimed that the Democratic Party is supposedly embracing “socialist and communist ideology for self-preservation.” It is, of course, a ridiculous complaint.
The Democratic Party, since 1992 especially, has moved further right with its establishment leadership consisting of neoliberals, corporatists and Third Way promoters. Its Third Way “alternative” is nothing more than a rehash of the status quo’s imperial foreign policy and “free trade” ideology.
But Malliotakis sounds certifiable with her right-wing rhetoric. Responding to a statement by Rep. Mark Takano, D-CA, that democratic contender for New York mayor Zohran Mamdani is not a socialist, but an advocate for small C capitalism, Malliotakis complains that Mamdani “literally said he doesn’t like capitalism. And here’s of these Democrats saying that he supports capitalism with a lowercase C. It’s ludicrous.”
But, so what if Mamdani doesn’t like capitalism, given its inherent nature for profiteering at any cost? Malliotakis goes on, saying, “This is the problem with the Democratic Party. They are moving more and more to the left…” This is simply Orwellian-speak on Malliotakis’s part.
She also claims that Mamdani said he “wants to seize the means of production. That is laterally a page out of the communist playbook of Karl Marx.”
Malliotakis claimed that “people all over [New York City] fled socialism, fled communism, like my mother fled Cuba. And they have to wake up and recognize what they are trying to do in our country before it’s too late.” What? If these people fled socialism and communism why do they have to wake up in the first place. If they are that afraid.
It is, of course, not surprising that Malliotakis toes the anti-communist line. And that Newsmax quotes her. She has no idea what she is saying in regards to those ideas. For example, Malliotakis fails to understand Soviet history where Stalinism was the problem, not socialism or communism, despite the unfortunate fact that Stalin “promoted” them.
Especially nowadays, right-wing media peddles conspiratorial fantasies more often than not out of their demented imagination. While there are certain truths published, this media, along with the “liberal” media, are not to be trusted with controversial topics.
