While the United States Empire Lies and Makes Provocations, Venezuela Prepares to Defend Itself
By David Starr
By now, it should be clear to most people that U.S. leaders are lying about and making provocations against Venezuela. This has been a virtual tradition within the U.S.’s imperial foreign policy when it particularly pertains to the Global South.
If most people are not aware, this is because of government and media propaganda which conditions the population on a daily basis and as a result makes people ignorant of a country like Venezuela. Examples of propaganda techniques are a blatant omission of facts and a cynical one-sidedness.
The Trump regime in particular has come out with damn lies, claiming that Venezuela has a “narco-terrorist” government and a “narco-terrorist” leader, that is, Nicolas Maduro. But Maduro and most of the Venezuelan people are not having any of it.
For example, MAGA shill Pam Bondi made the bizarre announcement that there’s a $50 million “reward” for the capture (more like abduction) of Maduro. This will probably be another failed action, among other failures of the Trump regime.
The U.S. empire has had an obsession with the Global South based on the empire’s superiority complex. Thus, arrogantly calling Latin America the empire’s “backyard.” In large part, democracy and freedom are not the priorities of the United States in its treatment of the Global South. U.S. “interests” are.
But those interests have consisted of supporting tyrants and neoliberals, the better to protect U.S. imperialism. The U.S. empire, and other nations of the West as well, have taken full advantage of the Global South’s land, labor, wealth and resources. In turn, nations of the Global South have experienced exploitation, theft, poverty, violence, and in turn, general instability.
So, it’s understandable why many people, documented or undocumented, choose to go North. But if conditions were generally stable in their home countries, most would probably stay where they are.
Venezuela has had crises over the years, but mainly due to outside interference, like the imperialism of the U.S. empire, and U.S.-supported local elites, many times brutally protecting it for their own greed.
The current crisis involving Venezuela and the empire is a continuation of the U.S.’s determination to hold on to dominance in what consists of a unipolar world and thus maintaining and protecting big, private corporate monopolies. And despite the lies of combatting drug cartels, the United States tries to intimidate and make provocations against Venezuela.
But Venezuela has established and implemented its Bolivarian Revolution since 1999 when Hugo Chavez was elected. And most Venezuelans are determined to protect it.
In a segment of Prensa Alternativa, details are given about Venezuela’s defenses.
It’s been said that President Maduro has mobilized 8 million people in militias, combined with the police and the military. Venezuela thus can be called a Republic-in-arms.
In another segment of Prensa Alternativa, the controversy of Russian-supplied fighter jets flying near U.S. war ships is mentioned, as well as the U.S. empire’s verbal response.
The International Action Center came out with a piece that calls for supporting Venezuela as well as defending it. A growing number of people are answering the call worldwide.
In Defense of Communism also published a joint statement from communist and workers’ parties, citing U.S. actions against nations in Latin America and the Caribbean. It also called for the support and defense of Venezuela. (Note: while this site’s information is relevant, it showed pics of Stalin, who was not a great guy.)
If one uses commonsense, awareness and education to understand what is really going on with the U.S. empire’s behavior towards Venezuela, one would realize that it’s the empire that is the essential problem. It helps to research Venezuela’s history in its relations to the United States, and see how the past connects to the present.
It’s not a matter of dwelling in the past. It’s a matter of learning from it. The current crisis between Venezuela and the United States is a result of U.S. imperialism.
