Trump’s Slush Fund For The January 2021 Rioters: Flushing Needed Funds Down The Toilet

The Trump regime’s list of crimes has gotten obscenely long. One could count the many ways that this is the case.

But, instead, I will focus on one action by the regime that adds to the obscenities. That is Trump’s “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” which would waste $1.776 billion on the fascist rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitolon January 6, 2021.

This would be funded by taxpayers’ money. The stench of Trump’s corruption is an insult to the U.S. population, in particular the real victims of the Capitol riot.

There were Capitol police who suffered injuries or faced death because of the rioters. And the rioters, egged on by Trump, are one of the reasons the U.S. population at-large is threatened through violations of the U.S. Constitution by the regime.

According to Democracy Forward, the reasons for the slush fund were “established through a private agreement following Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS over disclosure of his tax returns…the [regime] reached the agreement and settled it by creating a massive government-funded program designed to compensate people wholly unrelated to the original lawsuit…” Meaning, dishing out funds to the rioters.

It is typical of the regime to squander money like it’s doing with the slush fund. There is money for that, wars and corruption, but when it comes to social needs for U.S. citizens, the Republicans especially claim that there is no money available for those needs. The GOP also claims that it’s trying to reduce the deficit, but through cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other social programs. 

And not by cutting the military budget in half, stop government subsidies to the wealthy and corporations, and shutting down tax havens. The U.S. establishment has its priorities ass-backwards.

During a segment on CNN, there was a lively debate (or argument) on Trump’s slush fund. Conservative commentator Scott Jennings was outnumbered, and outclassed, by three other members of the panel including Cornel West and Anna Navarro. 

Right-wingers have been forever trying to justify the regime’s words and actions. No matter what it says or does, there is the use of mental gymnastics and empty rhetoric coming from Trump supporters, as well as lies and half-truths.

But I think there will be a reckoning here. Democrats have a solid chance of winning in the midterm elections, even despite election fraud committed by Republicans. While voting in the U.S. has been a choice between “the lesser of two evils,” or the evil of two lessers, if Democrats can, preferably the progressive ones, take over Congress, there may be hell to pay against the Trump regime. Unless the corporate neoliberal Democrats screw it up, caving to the GOP in the name of “bi-partisanship.” That is, cooperating with a fascist party.

But I must say that elections in the U.S. have been controlled essentially by the two capitalist parties for over 100 years. Ideally, what is needed is a break from this duopoly and the emergence of a real working-class party or coalition to effectively challenge the rule of capital.

As Tracy Chapman said in her song, “Talkin Bout a Revolution,” it “seems impossible.” But she added that “poor people are gonna rise up and take their share.” 

The many crimes of the Trump regime, e.g., its slush fund, will backfire on the regime.
