The United States is Pulling the Strings of its Right-wing Puppets in Latin America
By David Starr
It has always been that way: the United States empire has been supporting right-wing tyrants and psychopaths for decades. And today it’s a continuation of business-as-usual.
Certain nations like Colombia, Honduras and Ecuador had presidential elections and the “victors” were right-wingers, i.e., Trump worshippers. They are in the typical mold of right-wing puppets. They want to try and impose more neoliberalism and have their countries once again become U.S. market satellites. They also want U.S. military bases imposed on the countries they rule.
When it comes down to it, those far-right fanatics are traitors to their own countries, with U.S. imperialism backing them up.
It would not be surprising if those elections were fixed to favor the far-right. The U.S. empire had made a tradition out of interfering in Latin American, and Caribbean, countries, insidiously and cynically operating behind the scenes, as well as overtly.
Geopolitical Economy Report gives details about the possibility of elections being stolen, and details of the right-wing’s “victories.” It also condemns the U.S.’s spoiled child Israel for interference in the election in Colombia.
The sovereignty of those nations has been violated numerous times. And not really for freedom and democracy. For the rule of capital as U.S. elites try to maintain and expand it, usually at the expense of the working class and the poor. All that has culminated in repeated violations of international law.
But, especially now, why should U.S. elites and elites elsewhere care about law? It’s not in their interests, and is a potential threat to their profiteering. Despite sweet talk about freedom, democracy and basic rights, the elites of capital really don’t give a damn about people…except their own. (And at times not even that!)
But what is behind the so-called right-wing wave? Breakthrough News attempts to answer that question.
One major issue that was hammered away at the voters was the issue of crime. The right-wing ran on campaign promises to crack down on crime. And some voters may have accepted this promise. What the real objective is, is to crack down on various groupings of the left/progressive movements. And the right-wing election “winners” see these movements as a threat…not because the right cares about freedom and democracy, but because left/progressives are a major threat to the grossly unequal relationships that have flourished over the decades. The right has fed at the political/economic trough to sacrifice their countries to further neoliberalism and military occupation. And, thus, to sacrifice the interests of many of the people they rule over, characterized by violence and poverty.
So, the promises to crack down on crime are meaningless, especially since the election “winners” have been involved in crime and corruption. The Geopolitical Economy Report provides further details above.
And, so it goes with the moral bankruptcy of the right-wing in Latin America. They try to emulate their cult leader Trump and their attempts at change are similar to his. But I believe in cause and effect. The more the right tries to impose their draconian policies, the more it will come back on them.
By supporting the right in Latin America, the U.S. empire continues to try and pull the strings of their “clients.” They are nothing but puppets and are a disgrace to freedom and democracy in the region.
